The Reborn 10’0” 18 grams/278 grains is primarily designed and developed to be a perfect salmon dry fly rod, where maintaining excellent tracking quality was important. Making a salmon dry fly fishing rod is far more difficult than making a wet fly rod, as it has to be forged from expertise and passion due to the circumstances a fly rod like that is meant for – salmon dry fly fishing.
In other words, it takes a lot more skills and quite a lot of salmon dry fly fishing experience to create a blank to be a precision tool on many different casting lengths. When you nail it, you will also have a blank that will subsequently be outstanding for wet fly fishing as well, as fishing and casting a wet fly is far less demanding compared to a dry fly.
The Reborn 10’0” 18 grams rod is, in our opinion, a perfect single hand rod where distance, accuracy and control are extremely easy to achieve! On this fly rod, we have reinforced all potential stress points, as well as had a strong focus on making an efficient energy flow throughout the blank from the bottom to top.
If you match this with a WF shooter 18 grams/278 grains when you are fishing with larger dry flies or skaters, you will have the perfect match. If your primary fly fishing is mainly focused on wet flies or hitching, your line choice should be a WF Evolve, which has a longer front tapering. When fishing with wet flies and tubes under conditions where you are forced to do a lot of single hand Spey casting, the Short-cut heads are truly a dream to work with. However, if distance is needed and you have room for overhead casting as well, the Logic heads are a far better option.
This line weight and rod length will always be an evergreen classic for a salmon- and sea run brown trout fly fisherman, and it is by far our favorite when it comes to surface fishing for both species.
