TK flies

A fly is not just a fly, and the fly creations from our ambassador, Thomas Kjelgaard, substantiate that fact. Thomas is an exceptional salmon- and sea trout angler, and also a unique fly tier. Thomas has spent most of his life around water and it is very clear to me that he observes water, colors and currents in a very different way compared to most fly anglers. This gives him a huge advantage when it comes to creating “fly-fishing” flies.

The TK flies might “look” like other flies, but trust me, they are truly different. What is special about his flies is that they are remarkably and carefully balanced when it comes to weight/colors and choice of material. They are all customized to serve a purpose and to be a “swimmer”. You can say that Thomas truly remedies the deficiencies in a fly and lifts fly-design to a whole other level.

Although the flies in TK’s fly series were originally designed for Danish salmon- and sea trout fishing, they have demonstrated themselves to be extremely efficient in many of the rivers around the world where salmon and sea trout are the target. This is especially true with regards to streams and rivers with slower current and darker riverbeds. In this range of flies, there are two types of flies, the zonker pattern and the shrimp pattern.

TK shrimp flies are unique, as no matter how they are presented they seem to “fish” right away. In other words, regardless of current conditions and the angle of the cast, this fly design has proven itself to be attractive as soon as it starts moving through the different water columns. A truly effective pattern that has often made a crucial difference on days where the salmon or sea trout have not been active – especially during low to medium water conditions.

TK zonker flies have a fly pattern that has demonstrated to be exceptionally effective for salmon- and sea trout fishing throughout the whole season. The zonker fly was originally designed in the 1970’s by Mr. Dan Byford and was created for saltwater fishing. Therefore the TK zonker flies are quite different from the original zonker flies – and furthermore, they can be fished effectively even in places where there is very low current. TK zonker flies are especially productive when the water conditions are medium to high and you find the fish next to the current.

We recommend the use of Salmo focal point beads and Pro hook guides for best performance.

P.S.: All Thomas Kjelgaard’s flies are tied by the professional Danish fly tier Martin Votborg, and therefore maintain a standard of high quality, in both material and workmanship.
