I was born in 1964 and am originally from beautiful Ayrshire in the South West of Scotland. This is an area with a lot of good spate rivers like the Stinchar, Nith, Doon, Ayr and Girvan. It is on these rivers that I learned my craft of fly fishing for salmon and trout.

I have worked as a manufacturing engineer all my life – travelling all over Europe. A few years ago, my wife and I moved to the Moray coast on the banks of the stunning River Findhorn, between the Spey and Ness. As well as fishing, I have a normal job working for a large life sciences organisation as a Senior Reliability Engineer, and recently graduated with a degree in Engineering Management, something I am very proud of.

All my free time is spent fishing great rivers like the Findhorn, Spey, Dee, Lochy, Halladale, as well as many other Scottish rivers. I am also the secretary of the Forres Angling Association on the lower Findhorn. This is important to me as it allows me to give something back by supporting such a great organisation that offers top quality salmon and sea trout fishing for the local community and visitors at very reasonable costs. It also enables me to meet many different salmon fishermen (and women) through visitors, guiding and teaching all with one goal in mind, catching that salmon.

I have been using Salmologic equipment since it first came on the market in 2015. I was attracted by the concept of shorter, lighter lines while fishing because I believe that stealth is really important when trying to catch Salmon. In 2019, I was delighted to be asked to become part of this innovative team that really challenges the status quo in equipment design and innovation.
Across the northern hemisphere, the Atlantic salmon is under more pressure than ever before – and in some rivers there is a serious decline. For me, this just makes the challenge of catching salmon even more exciting and requires many different tactics to be successful. I am looking forward to working as an ambassador for the Salmologic family, learning and sharing that knowledge with other anglers.
